Looking for trouble again

Every day followers spam my DMs asking me to test those flexible car LED screens that are trending right now. Honestly, I initially thought it was just more cheap industrial garbage. After all, the cheap LED boards on the market blind you if you look at them and short out in under a week. This time, I went straight for the biggest 24x5 inch version from CustMake. Took a box cutter straight to it.

Peeling back the layers

Bottom line up front: It actually holds up. The outer waterproof gel layer is incredibly thick, I dug my nails into it and it didn't even leave a mark. The IP65 waterproof rating is not fake. I literally soaked it in the sink for half an hour, powered it on, and it lit up perfectly. Flipping it over to look at the flexible PCB, the wiring is super clean, no sign of that rough sweatshop quality. Bent it hundreds of times, no dead pixels or broken traces.

Software testing

I do have to complain about the Bluetooth connection though. The initial pairing took a few seconds too long. But once connected, it's rock solid. You can draw directly in the app and the upload delay to the screen is just a fraction of a second. The brightness is absolutely sufficient. Even tested in broad daylight, you can see it clearly through dark window tint. If you're a car modder looking for that cyberpunk vibe, this is the most hassle-free, best value setup I've seen so far.
